HORNET engine rebuild

Some progress on rebuild but first a question: I am ready to align the crank and cam gears to install the timing chain. Is there a way to do this after piston #1 at top dead center and then set cam gear by valve clearance adjustment? Am I making this clear? Otherwise I will be turning cam gear with strap wrench - removing it - trying alignment - over and over. In phot I set up dial indicator on mag base to place piston #1 up. Not much help from shop manual. Gert
