Rebuilt Hudson Engine on CL in VA

Came across this....not sure if anyone could use it right now but thought I'd pass it along....

    That is a 232 CID engine, 1950 to 53, need serial # to have correct year. That engine should drop right into the 48 as all engines 262-232 and 308 are the same length and mount all the same. That carb is on backwards, choke should be to the rear. Walt.

    Please explain the output end of this engine as displayed in the picture. Does the flywheel mount to those small bolts?

    Water pump is tubed, so '51+ part, right?

    No distributor or oil pump or oil pan in sight.

    I am driving by there Saturday but at $2K, I can't afford to stop.

    Clifford Oil filter really dates this one. The head is certainly a 232, but maybe it's a 262 with a high compression head? Doesn't look rebuilt to me.. A bit pricey but they quit making them a few years ago.

    I would suspect that the 48 Commodore may have been a 47 Commodore. That would explain why it was too long. But you would think if he was a mechanic he would know this.
    If you look at the valve galley it is quite spotless so it probably has been gone thru an freshened up.

    I agree with Roger on this one. It would be nice if he had posted a few more picts, too. If that engine was done right, $2k is reasonable by New Jersey cost standards.

    Looks like someone just sprayed part of it with a paint can.

    The timing chain seems to have a lot of slack for a rebuilt engine.
    I think this would need some internal inspection to verify the " Rebuild"
    Might have had a set of rings and a valve job.

    mystery solved. The car (into which the late gentleman tried to put the 232) was indeed a 1947 Commodore, not a 1948.

    Actually, IS a 1947 Commodore, as it still exists. Along with the correct rebuilt 1947 engine, which is installed in it.
