Hornet piston ring installer

Time to install pistons with rings into the cylinders - installation "clamps" are harder to use on flatheads with pocket recess for valves - that is no flat deck all around like on overhead valve engines. I have the usual spring steel clamping device but reluctant to use it. What advice do you have ? Gert

That's what I use. Before I start, I use a jeweler's file, then 220 grit sandpaper and put a very slight radius on that edge. Then I watch really close at the transfer area, and push a ring into the groove with a worn ( no sharp edges) screwdriver as necessary.
