308 Flathead machine shop needed

Tomorrow I will get back my 308 engine from a machine shop that's had it for 2 years and has done nothing with it. I'm looking for a machine shop that can deal with a flathead engine including boring the engine oversized in the valve Chambers and installing new valves. The shop needs to be either in Wyoming or Montana or Colorado preferably. Please let me know if there's one available

This is somewhat out of the way in SLC, UT - Crankshaft grinders. I bought a Hornet that they had ground the crank, installed the valves and freeze plugs, and bore block .060 over - then the owner quit paying and I bought the partially completed engine. Working on it now although I bought it years earlier. They are still in business. Hope you find a shop closer to you. Gert

  • I'm primarily looking for somebody that can do the machine work. I'm kind of building the 7x motor for my 48. I need the chambers oversized for the bigger valves. Give me a phone number if you can let me call them and talk to them

  • You best leave this to someone that has done several 308 7X before, or else you may end up with an expensive boat anchor. I suggest either Steve Maas in IL, or Jeff Perkins in IN. Never heard of any shop in WY, MT, or CO having done one in the last 20-30 years.

  • I simply want the machine work done to the block. This includes the valve guides. I want to build it myself

Wookie - I know you bought one of the first-release of CNC chambered Power Dome II heads. Note that you will need to slightly modify the 7X exhaust valve area next to the chamber edge, as it will interfere with the valve. If you decide to go with Steve Maas he is aware of this issue. Also, not sure 7X intake valves are still available as per my last communication with Steve, there are some that are very close.

  • I bought mine taking exhaust valves from Steve a couple of years back. I also bought the valve guides from him too

As Ken noted i would have Steve do the machine work as he is closer to you than anyone else. The only other person I would trust is Kerry Dancey in FL, but I do not know his current backlog.
