I need Walt's help
I fired up my Pacemaker yesterday and gas flowed out all over the carb and the manifold. I suspect a stuck float, but need to know if that is likely as the carb was rebuilt this spring. If I take the carb apart, how do I correct the problem and assure the float, if that is the problem, does not stick again?

It could be any of 3 things, old style needle and seat, dirt in the fuel, did you have a fuel filter before the carb? Last but not the least, float set at wrong level. Need the carb tag number and year of car or the number stamped on the base flange before I can give any info. WA-1 carb fits 50 to 54 Wasp and pacemaker number 749s. 53-54 Hornet and Super Wasp take 2115s a 2 barrel carb. Remember I rebuild all Hudson carb for owners all over the world. Walt.0

Or as I found after having my Carb Rebuilt (not by Walt) the float had a hole in it and didn't float.

Before answers are spot on. I had an additional glitch. The needle has a small "hook clip" that snaps around a receased area and attaches to the float arm. One of my 968s was missing, which causes the needle to kind of float in the chamber creating inconsistant seating & movement.0

Walt, it was rebuilt by you this spring. It is a WA-1 on my Pacemaker so it must be a 749. I do have a filter before the fuel pump. Guess I'll have to take it out and apart to see for myself. I hope I don't need parts because I want to go to Carl Weber's on the 21st.

The problem is just the crap gas they sell us now . If you leave it sit that long without stabil in it you will have issues. Yhe new gas starts to go bad in about two weeks time ,

I installed a "Craig" valve, aka Grose Jet, in my WA and have never had a flooding condition since, even after sitting for 2 months in AZ. IMO they are better than the viton tipped float valves.0

It has to be dirty gas or stale gas. I stand behind all my carb work and if it's the carb send it back to me and I will fix it with no charge to you. Walt0

Is the fuel pump a new rebuild or one that was hanging around, and do you have the correct gasket pack between engine and pump? If not enough, pump will pump to much pressure and needle and seat can only hold 5 to 6 pounds. You have to have a filter before the carb to catch any junk that may be in the old pump and lines. I have 3 filters on my car and when I cross the country, 3,100 miles, all three have to be changed, dirty gas. I test all my carbs for 5 pounds pressure. Walt.0

Middletom, I had Walt rebuild my 430S for my 39 six and he did an outstanding job! I am very pleased with his work. If you send him the carb you will be suprised at how nice it looks and well it preforms when you get it back. I would trust none else with it.
