Finally got my car!

I just got my 52 Pacemaker over this weekend. Needs some reconstruction to get her back on the road. Amazingly there is absolutely no rust to be found anywhere! Plus a few local Hudson members in the area are helping me with this project. Hopefully it will make it to the nationals in San Mateo. She won’t be cosmetically perfect but getting her on the road is the goal.
I did notice that the belt line trim retainers are ether missing or very damaged from prior removal. Anyone know where I can find these retainers?

Also I will be repainting the engine, since the Chevy orange is peeling off. Does anyone know what the correct color for this year pacemaker is?

Engine should be gold. Oldsmobile Gold is a good match.
  • I thought gold was for a Hornet 308 engine? This is a pacemaker 232 of which I was under the impression was a reddish orange; please correct me if I am wrong.
  • The 52 Pacemaker I have the engine was silver
  • Gold was the Hornet engine color. The Pacemaker and Wasp had silver engines

Never NEVER EVER go by a sales brochure for the color of ANYTHING. These are marketing tools printed in brilliant colors to sell cars. Brochures are NOT restoration manuals having anything much to do with the authenticity standards of what the car was like new when built on an assembly line.

Your engine was aluminum silver - everything except the accessories like the distributor and generator and air cleaner which were black.

My bad, I forgot. . . . typing before thinking.
  • Thanks guys the engine will be repainted silver.
Also my interior is missing the headliner; the interior color scheme is the standard 52 pacemaker red and brown striped material with dark brown vinyl. What would the correct headliner color be for this year?

Does the silver color apply to the 53 Super Wasp 262, or was that gold?

  • The 53 Super Wasp was also silver. Walt.

Congratulations on graduation from restoration school.

    Great looking 52 Pacemaker.

52 Pacemakers had a Taupe colored headliner installed.

Enjoy the assembly and driving your car.

Duplicolor 500 degree engine paint in "Aluminum" color is an excellent match to the original engine color. Don't put it on too heavy ... you want to see the "grain" of the cast iron, not a smooth surface.

AS A PACEMAKER OWNER I'M SURE AS PARK SAID SILVER OR ALUMINUM
  • Thanks for the info on the paint, I just checked my cabinet and I have plenty of Dupli Color 500 Aluminum from another project!

On another note does anyone know where I can get the trim retainers for my beltline trim? It is ether missing or badly damaged.

Anyone know what the wasp or super wasp engine color was in 1953, silver or gold?

I have gotten trim retainers from Dellis Hudson in Michigan. It looks like you have a dual groove pully setup from a 55-56.........very nice for adding A/C. Nice looking car!

    motor color was silver
  • I will check with Dellis for those retainers. Also I am not planning on using the AC pulleys, so if anyone wants them please give me an offer. They were powder coated and are still very nice.
