Wayne Carini - Owning and Italia & how it lead to a staring role on Chasing Classic Cars TV Show

The following is a link to a NY Times article about how Wayne pursued and purchased an original Italia. Wayne attributes this article as the reason he was asked to host Chasing Classic Cars. If you are a faithful watcher of this car show, you will see glimpses of this Italia parked on the show room floor or in one of the garages at Wayne's business. This Times article is a cool bit of Hudson trivia.

This is the same car I saw at a Hudson National years ago in Ohio. Ray Robinson was very accommodating to the young fellow who kept circling the car (ME!) and after my third round he asked if I would like to sit in the car and possibly go for a ride! That was the one and only ride in an Italia I have ever had. A great Hudson memory that will be me till my demise.

It was a priviledge to have known Ray and Hazle for many years. Cute story about when I first met them. They were having a meet at their home back in the 70's, 1971, 1972, somewhere in there and tho it was a ways from southern Maine where I lived I decided to go. In the process of finding their house I stopped at a gas station in Portland (CT) to ask directions. Hazel got the biggest kick out of what I told her the guy at the gas station told me - "Oh, you mean that old guy with all those Fords!!!"

Always a pleasure to see Hazel at a New England Chapter meet over the years. She is a lady.

I also had the pleasure of knowing Ray and Hazel. I have a picture of my son Matthew standing in the front seat of the Italia when he was about 3 years old. Matt who is now 35 years old stopped by Waynes' shop and told him that he once drove the Italia.

Hazel still has her brothers '53 Hornet. It is probably the most original '53 hornet out there.
  • Walt Mordenti here. When i drove to Waterbury, Ct. in 1992, driving my daughter's 53 Hornet to their National from San Francisco, CA, Hazel talked to me about her Italia, would nor start. Was told engine was bad. I drove to her house, put gas in carbs and fired right up, bad fuel pump. Could not locate a fuel pump, called my daughter and asked if I could sell Hazel the new pump I had in the trunk, she said OK. It's a job to install a double action pump on that engine. She drove it for many years afterwards and always thanked me. I did other work on it also. Walt.
