I use 15w40 oil in my 28 Essex Super 6 engine & 140 grade in gearbox & differential. Be careful NOT to use oil with EP additive in the gearbox - they conflict with the bronze bushes.
Pull & carefully clean out sump before starting engine
  • thanks for the oil weight. any info. for temporarily feeding carb. ? /

giardina: heed whatever Geoff says! His daily driver is a '28 Essex and he is the ''go-to'' guy in New Zealand for Essex (and other earlier Hudson) repair.
  • 1928 essex supersix coach,thanks for comments. paul g.
  • also have need of horn ring/button and levers what was left of the old one was a plastic ringinside the steering wheel.or a good steering wheel would be great.

The main thing is to steer clear of heavy monograde oil in the engine. 15W-40 as Dave says, is fine. Penrite gear lubricant, 140 for the diff is fine, or modern 90W-140 for both transmission or rear end is also okay. Modern oils do not affect bronze bushings, just the old types with sulphur in them. I cant' help with horn ring etc, as our r.h.d. cars are different. Use oil in the king pins, not grease, as there is no fitting at the bottom and grease will not get down to the bottom of the pin. Good luck,
    Geoff
