1x Howcome I can't post pictures any more? I brsowse and select but nothing happens. Yas, I'm signed in. Which brings up
2x Howcome I have to view the tail end of a 57 Chivvy every time I want to sign in? Hudsons suck you know, and if you want to experience it, park beside one of these things at a car show and watch your Hudson suck all the attention away from it. People will glance at the Chivvy and then come over and talk about your Hudson for 20 minutes. Fun! Drives the other guys nuts 'cause they have 10 times the money in their car than I have.
And 3x Howcum this screen goes blank and I have to type blind when I'm trying to post?? Somebody hasn't got their act together yet...or they have and forgot where they put it.

1. How to insert images - http://www.classiccar.com/forum/discussion/160153/how-to-insert-an-image-within-your-discussions
2. Sign in on the forum page is coming.
3. Can you describe this in more detail. And what browser, and what version of that browser, are you using?0 -
Uncle Josh, I just tried to post a pic for the first time and it was easy. I opened a new discussion, hit attachments, hit browse and selected my pic and opened it. There it was in the discussion. I just hit the post to discussion and it worked fine. I am surprised !! Richie.0

Yup, Josh, I just tried myself, using both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and it worked for me.
As to the '57 Chivvy, I'm afraid that has become the synonym for "antique car" nowadays. Designers mindlessly reach for it. Probably came built-in with the forum software Classiccar bought.
As to the blank screen, I sure haven't had that problem yet! Hey, time to turn in that old hand-cranked computer for a newer steam-powered one, like I'm using, LOL!0 -
Nicely done Richie! The other way to add an image, if you see it on a website rather than have it on your computer or storage device, is this:
1. Click the image button, and < img src="" /> will appear where you would type your post
2. Go to the picture on you found on the web that you want to insert
3. Right click on the image, and select "Copy Image URL"
4. Paste that URL in between the two sets of double quotes. So: < img src="URL HERE" />
5. Post the comment and you're done.
NOTE: For the purposes of illustration, I inserted a space into < img src="" /> - there is no space between the < and img0 -
Jon B - Nope we selected that picture from Flickr under the Creative Commons licence for ClassicCar.com, as we did the Mercedes-Benz Gullwing for ClassicCar.co.uk, and had our graphic designer Photoshop the images.
It may be generic, as you say, but the numbers bear out the choice - the number of Chevrolets for sale on the site beats every other marque by a long way!
The forum software is indeed off-the-shelf, but the rest of the site is crafted in Ajax.0 -
I use a Mac, and I don't see that on Safari, Firefox and Chrome. I'll fire up a PC and see if I can download IE8 and have a look.
But... I would recommend upgrading to IE9 if you can (that is if you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7). IE8 is getting a little long in the tooth now. When I do use the PC rather than the Mac, it's via IE9, and the site outputs without issue.
And with that, I'm retiring for the day, as it's 1.00 am here. My 5 year old son will be up in a few short hours. So it's up at 5.30, drop my son off at school, and then it's an 85 kilometre train trip to the office. See y'all (my) tomorrow.0 -
I might not be the first to do this but, I would like to say that I was shocked when our
Hudson forum was not available anymore. Shocked again when I saw the new one for the first time. And that 57 Chev... Yuk! And, as I always do in a case like this, just moved a little bit farther to see what would happened. I read a lot of comments, some nice, some not... Some justified, some not...And the suggestions came from day to day, and frustration that a lot of us had, began to diminish.
But the best that happened, Scott was always there to answer. And I am sure that, when he was not there, it was because he worked his butt off to satisfy us, Hudson fans. So, Thank you Scott! I don't know you, never met you, but hope it happens one day. I still remember the first day I met Uncle Josh in Albany. Was talking to him, he was anonymous then, by the name of Larry. And then, we noticed we were on the Hudson forum. And when he told me his nickname was Uncle Josh, it was like if I had met Elvis in person, cause I was already a fan of Uncle Josh and was very pleased that he would dare to read my comments too, me the newby by then. So, let's keep the good work coming. We have to continue to use that great forum and I can't wait to meet a bunch of you guys in Gettysburg! Sorry for the long comment.
Michel.
P.S. Don't forget I don't have the english corrector on my computer since it's french, All the words I write are underlined. Hope some of them are good...0 -
Well, maybe more Chevys are selling because people are tryin to git rid of the things. Yuk Yuk.
Had a ride in one last week by the way and he's tryin to sell it to concentrate on the 49 Studie and the 49 Buick.
Now I'm gonna try and post a pic. Hmmm, that worked. I did restart this old IBM. Using IE7 as far as I can determine.
OK, what car is it?0 -
1910 Toulouse-LaFarge?0

And lastly, I too have experienced the screen going 'blank' when typing a post. I had not commented or mentioned it, as it was just an annoyance and I quickly found a workaround (and hadn't heard anyone else mention it).
My screen would go blank while typeing a post. I clicked on the up or down arrow at the right of the screen and the post would come back into view. Type a line and go blank, type another line and go blank. It was a crap shoot as to which arrow to choose. One time it might be the up arrow and/or the down arrow next time, very annoying Thank goodness I have not had that problem for lately.

I spoke to soon. The next post I tried, the screen went blank and the arrows did not work this time. Had to exit and re-enter to the forum. Lee O'Dell0

uncle josh, they have the drivers tail fin pictured 'cause thats where you put the gas! i don't know if it's the screen blank thing you guys are talking about, but sometimes i just need to scroll down. like the lenth of 4 or 5 pages before i can see what i am typing. after i happen to do that once i just scroll down and can see the posts and my reply.0

Re. the screen going blank, I think I've found the cause. It looks like it's the auto-save feature, that little 'Draft saved' box that appears. It seems only to be an issue in the Internet Explorer browser. Damn Microsoft strikes again!
I found a plugin that disables the auto-save. I've asked the devs to assess that it's safe to implement, if yes we'll push it live, and hopefully the screen blank issue will be toast.0 -
@54SuperWasp By the way, thanks for the kind words last night/yesterday. If it's of interest, I was thinking about adding something to the 'My Hometown' thread, and tell you all a little more about little ol' me.
Both Ben and I would have hugely preferred that the transition was smoother, but it's a certainty in projects like this that unforeseen things occur.
And when the site does really well, hopefully I will start to receive offers to travel to car shows and the like, and perhaps pop over for a Hudson event. Here's hoping.
p.s. Your English was just fine Marcel!0 -
@Scott: p.s. Your English was just fine Marcel! Your Marcel is not fine, I'm
Michel! And sorry Ben, I forgot to thank you too! Michel.

@54SuperWasp Well, obviously I didn't get enough sleep last night. Sorry about that Michel!0

Good try Jon. American Underslung. About 1910. They mounted the springs under the axles, thus the fenders are about even with the hood.
Yes, Michel. Meeting you was a gift and one of the great reasons for Hudson meets. Kinda miss the chat room. I met Jon there and he's attended most of our UJ meets here in Northville, as he vacations in the area.0 -
Gentlemen. We've added a plug-in that disables the auto-save feature. Can you let me know if this screen blanking issue has gone away?0
